Wonderful Italian Grand Tour oil painting showing various figures looking across the Tuscan landscape Entitled 'Gardens of the Villa' the residents stand on the grand balcony overlooking the countryside The figures - some in papal clothing - stand near the balustrade Further in the distance another group of smaller figures stand on another balcony It's a great perspective and gives a great sense of distance I also like the contrast between the man made elements to the left of the painting as they contrast with the vast expanse of nature in the right section of the painting The landscape and pink skies are given a Turneresque treatment with the shades and colours to the clouds and horizon We do not know the name of the artist but it's a very evocative and Romantic scene Circa 1820 and great antiqued finish to the painting with a wonderful craquelure effect Bought from a private residence in London's Chelsea Offered in great shape ready for home use right away Dimensions in inches (CM): Width x Depth x Height 30 (76) x 2 (5) x 19 (48)
