The original object was only made 50 times by his father's cabinetmaker - Josef Wytrlik. Otto Wytrlik was a student of Otto Wagner and is one of the great names of Viennese Art Nouveau. The antique piece is well documented in literature and took first place in a competition organized by Portois & Fix: “Design for a simple dining room”. In 1902 the room was shown at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in Turin and was awarded a gold medal. 50 of these dining rooms, made by Josef Wytrlik, were sold by the Portois & Fix company after 1902. Similar variants were then produced by the August Ungethüm company.
