About This Piece

Set of two paintings done on wood panels, representing sailboats facing the waves.
These boats, sailing on a rough sea, display the French flag. The fleet, with the buildings seen in the background, seems to face the elements, illustrated by the gusts in the sails and the swell of the waves.
The works are set in carved and molded golden wood frames. Of a deep gold color, they are richly ornamented, especially in the corners, with palmettes and scrolls, and are surrounded by a garland of stylized motifs.
These two frames are also distinguished by their thickness, which gives them an eye-catching relief.
Illustrating the wild beauty of the ocean and the duel it sometimes reserves for man, you will be captivated by the impression of movement that emanates from these paintings.
