One of a kind made dining set designed and made by Laurens Bisscheroux which is coming from an interior designed for his aunt in 1956. Its clear to see that Bisscheroux, an architect himself, was a true craftsman, not scared of taking a different and unique approach and the outcome is this stunning dining set. The chairs are made of solid birch wood and all have the original upholstery which is a red vinyl. The table has the same wood and appearance as the chairs and shares the same connection structure. This design shows influences from mediteranean countries like France, Italy or Spain. In the chairs you could see a mix of architects Gio Ponti and Antoni Gaudí. Ponti by the way the legs are made, pointy and angled like the Leggera chair and Gaudí by the way the structure is sculpted and in the two chairs with the elegant armrests. It has a glass top with a nice waved surface. This dining set is in fantastic original condition without any mention worthy marks besides a beautiful original patina. Measurements table; 75h 180w 90d cm Measurements chairs; 94h 47sh 57w 52d cm Laurens Bisscheroux was born on March 31, 1934, in Eygelshoven, as the son of contractor W.H. Bisscheroux. Initially he attended a minor seminary in Sittard but did not complete his studies there. He then pursued a degree in civil engineering at the HTS in Heerlen and subsequently worked as a furniture maker in his father's company. In 1960, he started his own architectural firm. His works can be divided into two periods. The first period is characterized by structuralist designs. In the early 1960s Bisscheroux received his first major commission. The Italian Belfi family sought a new ice cream parlor. Bisscheroux designed the La Veneziana ice cream parlor, introducing people to novelties like cappuccino. Bisscheroux aimed to capture the ambiance of 1950s Italian films in his designs, both exterior and interior. Mosaics, a bar made of cobblestones, and artistic wall decorations enhanced this atmosphere. A beautiful green enameled brick was used for the side facade. from around 1972, his work took on a sculpturalist nature. Notable examples include the AZM building in Heerlen. The striking building had a steel skeleton, constructed of cubes measuring 4.50 meters per side. Glass was extensively used in the building, and the dimensions were spacious, with vivid color usage, resulting in a transparent structure. However, it was the distinctive sunscreens that gave the building its unique appearance, earning it the nickname "toetergebouw" (horn building). Bisscheroux also designed homes and the police station in Kerkrade. After 1980, he ceased his work as an architect and devoted himself entirely to painting and furniture design.

About the Creator

Gio Ponti

Born in Milan in 1891, Giovanni (Gio) Ponti studied architecture at Politecnico. After serving in World War I, he worked as Art Director for respected ceramics company Richard-Ginori. Between 1923 and 1927, he partnered with architects Mino Fiocchi and Emilio Lancia. In 1928, Ponti launched both his own architectural studio and the famed magazine Domus. Through the pages of Domus—and, later, those of Lo Stile, which he founded and edited between 1941 and 1947—Ponti influenced international design taste for over 50 years.

Around 1933, he teamed up with engineers Antonio Fornaroli and Eugenio Soncini to form Studio Ponti-Fornaroli-Soncini, which embraced a decidedly Modernist idiom and lasted until 1945. In 1950, he won the design commission for what became one of the 20^th century’s most iconic buildings: Milan’s 32-story Pirelli Tower (built 1956). In 1952, he partnered with architect Alberto Rosselli (Studio Ponti-Fornaroli-Rosselli); after Rosselli’s death in 1976, Ponti continued to collaborate with longtime partner Fornaroli.

Throughout his career, Ponti juggled numerous roles, including architect, industrial designer, craftsman, professor, painter, editor, and journalist. In addition to his prolific architectural work, Ponti’s design credits are also extensive, ranging from coffee machines (the world’s first, the Pavoni, in 1949) to lighting and furniture for the likes of Cassina, Artemide, and Venini.
