About This Piece

The graphic presents 19th-century women's headwear in the Empire style. Copperplate engraving on handmade paper, the so-called butten paper, hand-colored with watercolors, in pastel colors and powder shades. In the nineteenth century, the source of knowledge about the then fashion were fashion magazines illustrated with original graphics presenting clothes for different times of the day and year, as well as fashion accessories used depending on the circumstances.

Following the example of French clothing, it was associated with the Napoleonic era and later with the taste of the bourgeoisie. Today, the prints have gained an ornamental, decorative character, but nevertheless are still an important iconographic source that allows you to learn about old fashion, accessories and customs.

The offer also includes other fashion graphics from the same series. The selected graphics have been framed, and the pastel colors of the passepartout have been individually designed.
